Dumping in the Third World
I just came back from Indigo Insights where her list of signs from all over made me think of something from the dim, distant past.
Back in 1971-1972 when I was a Marine Security Guard in Islamabad, Pakistan, the locals were building a high-rise hotel to compete with the Intercontinental in Rawalpindi, right next to Islamabad. Now, anyone who has done a lot of international travel knows that the Intercon's were some of the best in the business.
As part of the new hotel, they were adding ensuite to each room (an attached bath / toilet to the main bedroom. Since each floor was built on the same plan, these were immediately over each other. They only made one little mistake.
Have you ever seen a Pakistani toilet?
It consists of a hole in the floor with a footprint on either side. Now picture being on one of the lower floors during the morning rush.
Exactly. Close - So Close!
(Don't get the wrong idea - I loved my 13 months in Pakistan, even during the War for Bangladesh in December of 1971. I got to see Kim's cannon in Lahore, I drove through the Khyber Pass, went up into the foothills of the Himalayas and met Kissenger when he came through to set up Nixon's first trip to China. And at least back then, the people liked and respected us!!)
