A History Quiz
Does anyone out there recognize these names?
- John Hanson
- Elias Boudinot
- Thomas Mifflin
- Richard Henry Lee
- Nathan Gorman
- Arthur St. Clair
- Cyrus Griffin
No? Give up?
Well, every American should know who these men were, especially John Hanson. These seven gentlemen were all President of the United States before George Washington!
Under the Articles of Confederation, each man was elected for a period not exceeding one year, and it was only after the Constitution was adopted that Washington took office.
Admittedly, the Articles of Confederation didn’t work very well, but I can’t understand why these men have been so neglected by out schools and historians.
John Hanson became the first President of our Nation right after the Revolutionary War and did a lot of good work in his short year. Go to Google and check these men out – a very interesting chapter of American history (especially when you consider the relationship between Richard “Lighthorse Harry” Lee and Robert E. Lee - Robt. was Harry's son!)
