Now THIS Pisses Me Off

Have you noticed how those wonderful, caring individuals down outside the Crawford Ranch have made the classic demand again?

You know the one - that Bush should send his daughters to Iraq. These same people have also demanded that members of Congress send their sons and daughters over there to fight. Isn't that just so f'kin precious?

If you can remember back that far, these people were also sowing fear that conscription was coming.

Well, the draft never materialized, did it? And as a result of that non-starter, we still have an all volunteer military. If I remember right, that means that everyone in uniform is there because they want to be there, correct?

By making these demands, those morally superior people are basically saying that being in the United States military is the equivalent to being sentenced to a prison term, and that these parents - the President and members of Congress - should have the power and authority to force their offspring into uniform and into the war zone.

Needless to say, I take umbrage with that. You might even say that it leaves me somewhat irritated. It's pretty obvious that those in the liberal/socialist/communist crowd either didn't think thru the consequences of this demand, or they actually believe that every parent in this country should have the power to place their children into forced servitude.

Isn't this just a teeny bit against their normal ACLU-led views of the "rights of children"??

I'd like to hear from others on this - pro or con. I'd f'kin love to hear how someone can possibly support this!

Update: Mark Steyn has a column in the Spectator that covers this, as well as other related subjects. As usual, his take on this is well done.
