How Did I Miss This?

Somehow I missed hearing about any trial on this matter, but I was reading today's yellow journalism sheet and I came across an article stating that a jury has begun deliberations in the New Orleans case of Eddie Jordan, the city's first black district attorney.

It seems that when Mr Jordan took over his office one of the first things he did was to fire 53 employees - clerks, child-support enforcement officers and the like. The reason they were fired? They were white, and he wanted his office to be "more reflective" of the population of New Orleans so he replaced all of these people with blacks.

His counsel said that Mr Jordan had the right to fire anyone he wanted, and that there was no racism or discrimination involved.

Yep. Sure thing, Chief.
