Gordon Cooper - A True Hero

One of the men I most admired as a youth passed away yesterday.

Gordon Cooper was one of the "Original Seven" astronauts chosen for our fledgling space program. The others were Scott Carpenter, John Glenn, Walter Schirra, Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Donald K. "Deke" Slayton, and Alan Shepard Jr.

Many in our nation never gave a thought to the fact that our three most famous astronauts, Armstrong, Aldrin and Cooper of Apollo 11, were not from the original team.



Yes, I know I'm getting old, but moments like this can still make me very proud to have served this Great Nation.
