That Other Election
I know that most Americans don't know that Australia is holding their general elections this coming Saturday; and I suspect that fewer care.
But keep this in mind: Since we suffered the attack on September 11, 2001, Australians have been attacked twice. Once on the Indonesian island of Bali, which is just about the most popular vacation spot for Australians, and again recently in Jakarta when their Embassy was attacked.
If the current Prime Minister, John Howard, were to lose this election, all Australian assistance in the War on Terror will be removed. Period. I know that to John Kerry this is meaningless since Australian isn't a real ally anyway; but to the rest of us this would be a huge loss.
Over this next week I'll try to give updates on what is happening over there so the readers of this pathetic little offering will be better informed.
We aim to please.
