Feds Employ Fewer Disabled?
This article from FoxNews I find very interesting - and disturbing - for a number of reasons. Not the least of those is because I'm now "officially disabled".
Another things I found interesting is that one group is using percentages while the other is using actual numbers of employed (or not, as the case may be). That would seem to make a big difference in the discussion - if discussion is what is truly desired. One thing not mentioned is that, as soon as they get employment, most - if not all - disabled benefits stop as soon as they get employment.
Another thing not mentioned is how many disabled persons are actually applying for government jobs compared to how many actually find employment. I'd like to know the wage and benefits differential between the private sector jobs and the government ones - especially since private sector employers have been giving a pretty healthy push towards "hiring the handicapped" in recent years.
In my view, though, one group isn't really interested in discussions. They aren't interested in finding any truth or otherwise in this. They are interested is scoring political points.
I find a similarity in this with some union positions. While just about all unions go for the Democrats, I've found several where the membership is solidly Republican.
Go figure.
