Red Cross Scam

I've seen some real lowlifes before, but this is lower than whale shit.

Person or persons unknown are calling military spouses claiming to be from the Red Cross. They claim that their spouse has been injured, and they need the military person's Social Security number and date of birth in order to get them treatment.

The Red Cross never contacts spouses about things like this - the military does. This is a straight identity theft.

If any of you out there know a spouse, please pass this on to them. They should contact the authorities immediately if they get any call like this.

Looks like I have a new use for my Ka-Bar - removing the scrotum of these asswipes.

Decoration Day

It is believed that the Civil War (or the War of Northern Aggression, as it's known down here) was still going on when some Southern women organized and started decorating the graves of the Confederate dead.

While Waterloo, NY, is the official starting point for this day, there are many places that independently were celebrating the lives of their fallen.

Gen. John Logan officially proclaimed Memorial Day on 5 May 1868 in his General Order 11.

As today, not last Monday, is Memorial Day, please get your flags up before you leave for work and take a few moments sometime today to think of those - from the Revolutionary War to the Present - who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to help protect the freedoms we enjoy.

May you all have a safe and blessed Memorial Day.

A Real Giggle

I just heard that Iran's President, Ahmanidiot, is accusing George Soros of trying to overthrow the Iranian government.

Doesn't he know that Soros is too busy trying to overthrow THIS government?

A Little Help?

When I was still working (many, many moons ago), I got a '95 Towncar because of my back problems. I've now had it for 11 years and it's starting to slowly go off life support (so's the back). I figure I'll have to drive it into the ground, but I was wondering:

Since most cars these days seem to be going for European-style suspension and handling, does anyone know of anything I can find that will have a good ride and that I won't have to sell the house to buy? New or used, I don't care. I just have to start the search now before it's too late.

I'll gladly take any help you can provide!

Memorial Day? I Don't Think So

Don't forget to fly your flags tomorrow to celebrate the start of the Summer Bar-B-Que season.

I may be an old fart who refuses to change, but Memorial Day is the 30th of May, not some three-day weekend.

Please - PLEASE - fly the flag on Wednesday to mark the proper day.

Also, I've been hearing quite a lot on TV and such that it's a time to think about our troops overseas.

Wrong.

Memorial Day is to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our Nation.

Yeah - I needed to vent, and this is about my only outlet without causing more damage to my carcass!!

A Couple of Oldies

I imagine all of you have, at one time or another, heard the phrase "Failure is not an Option". Do you know why? It's built in as an integral part of the OpPlan.

When I was a Sergeant with the Australian Federal Police, some wise ass put a sign on the wall: "Working Here Is Like Smoking A Joint. The Harder You Suck, The Higher You Get".

Happy Birthday!

How's that strike ya, Pilgrim?

She's Done It Again!

This morning I was at the Kernersville, NC court house as my daughter, Attitude With Legs, got married to a Redneck Truck Driver who's about 12 years younger than me. Seems strange to call him Son-in-Law. He's a really nice guy by what I've talked with him - the typical Former Marine sarcastic and cynical wit - we get along really well. He's done a lot around our home to help us out, what with me being limited in what I can do, and boy, do I appreciate it!

I also picked up 2 honorary grandchildren - a boy and a girl.

I truly hope that they can make a go of this and, while fights are bound to occur, they can work everything out and have a "Happily Ever After". I know that She Who Must Be Obeyed and I will do what ever we can to help them out.

A Big Congratulations to you both!

An Old One Always Worth Publishing

THE FINAL INSPECTION - Lest We Forget

The Marine stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Marine,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde

On this date in 1934, 73 years ago, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker drove into an ambush by law enforcement in Louisiana. They were so fast and accurate with their weapons - especially the BAR, that the police wern't going to give them any chance to fire back.

During their time on the road, they only averaged around $25.00 per robbery - mostly from grocery and drug stores. But they were murderous bastards when it came to anything that looked like a police officer.

"They don't think they're tough or desperate
They know the law always wins
They've been shot at before, but they do not ignore
That death is the wages of sin.

Someday they'll go down together
And they'll bury them side by side
To few it'll be grief, to the law a relief
But it's death for Bonnie and Clyde."

By the way - they were not buried "side by side" - they wern't even buried in the same cemetary.

Common Knowledge

Near the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, Coalition partner Egypt is running a hospital for Afghan civilians with the assistance of South Korea and the United States.

But everybody already knows that from the news, right?

Armed Forces Day

Today is Armed Forces Day. I hope that all of you that have one have your flag flying, and stop for a moment today to give a thought to all the men and women serving - no matter where they may be.

Those in the Sandbox get all the press, but we have forces in almost every nation on the planet - whether Defense Attaches or Marine Security Guards - and thousands stationed here in the States.

May God bless and protect all of them.

What a Wonderful World

There's two things that I saw this morning - as much as I've been trying to avoid the news because of the politics, some things seep through.

The late Rev Fallwell is going to be buried in Virginia next Tuesday. It made me wonder - will the Good Rev Fred Phelps and his Band of Merry Makers show up to join the "celebrations"?

Also I caught a blast from the past. After about two years of general silence, I see that the University of Colorado is trying to decide if Ward Churchill (a Trivial Pursuit answer) should be punished - maybe suspended for a year instead of dismissal. Since Churchill has already shown himself a liar, a plagiarizer and all-around asswipe, does anyone really give a shit about him anymore?

More Fuelishness

In that last post there were a couple of power sources I forgot to mention:

Hydrogen - With the oceans of the world, there's more hydrogen then we could ever use, but cracking it loose isn't all that easy. Besides, hydrogen doesn't burn, it explodes. Personally, I'd hate to be the one in the car when a leak formed in the fuel line and parts of me reached escape velocity.

Geo-Thermal - This works great. It's cheap and clean. The only problem is that there's very few placces that can make use of this. Iceland has been using it for years, but that's because it straddles the mid-Atlantic ridge, which is why the entire island chain that's not buried in glaciers is threatened by volcanoes. About the only place in the U.S. that we could make use of this is Yellowstone, and even though it's next to free, clean evergy, I can hear the Greenies screaming already.

That leaves one source of energy that the U.S. has in plentiful supply. In fact, we may never run out of it - if only we could figure out a way to tap it. What I'm talking about is the self-righteous, narrow-minded selfishness and indignation that America excels at.

A Little Fuelishness

Let’s see – it’s been almost two weeks since Earth Day and I haven’t heard of any private jets of politicians, corporations, Hollywood-types or rock bands being sent to the chopping block.

It seems that the two most obscene words in the English language these days are “fossil fuel”, so for our energy needs, that knocks out petroleum, coal, methane and natural gas. Let’s explore what’s left:

Ethanol – everything that grows on this planet or roams across it (with the exception of California real estate) is carbon based. Where do the Greenies think the fossil fuels came from? So – ethanol is out.

Hydro-electric – this is clean, but it ruins the rivers downstream from the dams, destroys spawning grounds for fish and floods huge areas of arable lands.

Nuclear – on a par with fossil fuel in the obscenity ratings. Clean, cheap energy but basically a fairly inefficient way of boiling water to push turbines. Main problem – the wasted fuel rods. We need to do with them what we did with the Voyager spacecrafts – load them in a rocket, point it at empty space and let it go past Pluto.

Wind power – this is feasible only in certain areas where the winds are consistent, and even then the windmills are useless unless you have square miles of them. Plus, the blades kill migrating birds, and you'd better not put them where Teddy Kennedy can see them.

Solar – as with wind power, you’d need acres upon acres of photoelectric cells just to power a small city; and that’s assuming their bases are computerized to be at the proper angle all day to follow the sun. Assuming there is any sun that week. Besides which, current photoelectric cells aren’t efficient enough to make solar power viable.

Wave power – this was tried some time ago – using the power of the tides to generate power – but it hasn’t seemed to have gone anywhere.

So – what do we have left? No draft animals – they fart methane and crap everywhere – so you’d better break out those Hush Puppies or put sidecars on your bicycles for Granny and the little ones.
